The Pretenders!

driving-on-cell-phone-and-eatingLike a lot of you, I spend a great deal of time driving.  Dealing with rush hour and gridlock has become just another one of life’s annoyances we’ve had to learn to accept.  Because so many of us commute, it’s nothing to spend 2-4 hours a day sitting in traffic, just inching our way along.

Most of the time, I just sit there and listen to the music – but the other day I started looking around out of boredom.  That’s when I spotted them.  You know we’ve all seen them – ‘The Pretenders’.

Most of the time they go unnoticed blending in, until they’ve almost caused a wreck.  Oh yeah, they look like they’re driving, but in reality they’re doing everything else except holding that steering wheel!

I can’t believe the things I’ve seen.  Let’s see, there’s the make-up artist, the one reading the newspaper and then there’s the quick change artist.  I didn’t know you could change your pants behind the wheel!

Don’t forget the one that’s shaving with one hand and holding a mirror with the other.  Or how about the quick hairdo change and of course the second most popular – eating a meal while driving.

Are we so busy that we can’t even stop to eat?

Now my personal favorite and before I say it, it’s something that some people can handle and then some are like those who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.  It’s that object we can’ live without – the cell phone!

Mashing buttons until you’ve worn the numbers and letters off of pretenderquotetheir keys.  Oh yeah, it’s not just for talking anymore and why would you want those awkward silences anyway?  So instead, we mash those buttons and type text messages.  Only problem is, if you’re looking at the buttons – then you’re not looking at the three lanes of traffic on each side of you or the car in front of you.

Have our lives really become so busy that we have to do everything while we are supposed to be driving – or are we so bored when we drive that we do everything else except actually driving?

Can ya dig it?

I absolutely hate people who can’t drive and talk at the same time! It’s not only dangerous, but it’s also an even greater annoyance.

There isn’t enough enforcement on the cell phone laws. How many dead bodies from car accidents need to pile up before they catch on?!

BTW, love the new blog and glad you’re over at WordPress now!

Love the new digs and the new post!

Cell phone drivers are the worst and I hope they learn to hang up those phones before they end up crashed into a median. LOL Hopefully not though.

Ditto! Cell phones and driving do not mix at all!

How many accidents does it take? 10, 20, 100? I guess when it comes down to it, even those wireless headsets are dangerous.

You can’t focus on the road if you’re focused on a conversation.

Can’t wait for next week’s post!!

Love the new blog and love this post too!!!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve complained about people using cell phones while driving, I’ve even called 911 when someone is using one and swurving in and out of their lane.

    We need some law enforcement!

Yah! Great rant on the cell phone peeps. I use bluetooth to talk to people and still it’s distracting.

Maybe this post will help people wake up!

Love the new design and love your rant on cell phones! California recently passed a no texting law this year and everywhere I go, people are still texting and driving.

I almost got side-swiped the other day because of a stupid kid texting while driving. Idiots!

Can’t wait for next week’s rant!

I like the way, these cell phone users about hit you, and then blow their horn and cuss at you like it your fault!

Nothing worse than a teenager who can’t drive anyway, texting and making it even worse.

Kids can’t drive worth a crap and now throw in texting – it gives you a moron behind the wheel of a 70mph bullet.

    Great read!
