I am so thankful that I live in a country where we are free to express our thoughts and beliefs openly.
Martin Luther King Jr. taught us how to peacefully protest against discrimination and to stand up for equal human rights for everyone. Over the years we’ve used protests as a public means of voicing our opinions and fighting for what we the people felt was right. Nowadays we rarely take it to the streets, instead we use the media – mainly the internet to rally the people for a good cause, but here lately the lines of what’s right and wrong have become blurred.
To put it bluntly, some have become haters! Ok, here’s where the gloves come off and if you can’t take the truth straight up, then stop reading now.
So what should one think of oneself when you become what you protested and despised? One word comes to my mind: HYPOCRITE! I’m speaking about the conversation and aftermath that took place between Miss California, Carrie Prejean and celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton. This whole incident was wrong on so many levels, but what should have made the news, didn’t at all – only the trash talk did.
As individuals we are born with certain human rights. The right to life, liberty, freedom of thought, freedom of expression and equality before the law. The U.N.’s ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ is defined as:
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Miss Prejean’s human rights were publicly violated when she was put on blast in front of the entire country. She was verbally attacked for her own private beliefs that were made public when she answered honestly, a question that was
asked by Perez Hilton at the pageant. Having human rights allows her the freedom to express her own beliefs and opinons.
At the onset of Adolf Hitler’s assumption of power, he banned free thought – he insisted upon national thinking. He also believed in killing incurables and various undesirables. Is this what we have reverted to? Why can’t we accept someones opinion and just say, “Ok – I hear where you’re coming from, but we’re going to have to agree to disagree”.
Difference of opinion is what makes us all so different. It’s what makes the world go ’round. We are all entitled to certain unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The real news here is the fact that we all have human rights and we live in a country where we can exercise those rights!
Can ya dig it?

I agree 100 percent, everyone has a right to their own beliefs, if you can’t speak them then this world is in big trouble! great artical
I’m a little shocked that you would choose this topic, most everyone is keeping quiet about it.
I applaud you for taking this on and I totally agree. Although I support gay rights, I do not support what happened to that young lady. Hilton had no right to put her on the spot like that and then bash her on his website.
That was very, very wrong. Hopefully he will learn from this.
I believe in fighting for what’s right. If you’re going to
openly voice your opinion then you must be open
to other opinions as well. I don’t believe I’ve ever
shied away from anything. it’s been a long and on going
fight for equal rights and we must stand our ground !
I totally agree as well. That poor girl was violated on national TV and Perez Hilton never should have been given permission to ask that question.
Whether or not she supports gay rights has nothing to do with anything. It is a personal and often a religious belief, therefore nobody’s business but her own.
Perez Hilton needs to get in some trouble for this, but I’m sure he won’t. You’re right though, he has become the person he has hated for so long.
Where are you from? Is it a secret?

Unfortunately, just because we live in a civilized society, does not mean everyone is civilized. Some people are so selfish, so insecure, they think they have to make someone else look bad, to make them look better. When I see or read stuff like that, I just have to consider the source. They are probably not going to get any smarter than they are today. Unfortunately, once again, there will always be attention seekers that live their life vicariously through others, that will always be there to support them. Sad, but true.
Thanks so much!
